The New York registry in numbers
Measured September 6, 2026New York City publishes addresses, not building names, so search by street address. Smarterlift treats a Category 1 filing as current for one year from its filing date. Outside the city, records come from the New York State Department of Labor.
How New York regulates elevator inspections
- •In New York City every device needs a Category 1 test annually and a Category 5 load test every five years from installation, with the report filed with the Department of Buildings within 21 days of the test.
- •Owners have 90 days after a category test to correct the defects it found, then file an Affirmation of Correction within 14 days.
